Whether you’re a photographer scouting your next location or a client trying to decide on the perfect spot, I’ve got you covered! Here are 3 tips for picking the perfect location for your outdoor lifestyle photoshoot! While there are so many factors that go into picking the perfect location, these three are always at the top of my mind! And trust me, as an Austin lifestyle photographer, with years of experience, the location for your outdoor lifestyle photoshoot makes allllllll the difference!

One of the first things to consider when trying to find that perfect spot is cost, right?! While most outdoor locations are usually free, there can oftentimes be costs associated with certain locations. The cost can range from a less than $10 entrance fee to an hourly fee for private land or a venue rental! Most often, my sessions are done at public parks, preserves, sometimes even on the side of the road 😅  However, private locations are less accessible to the public, making your session more intimate and less crowded. They also may offer something really unique you can’t find in a public location. For instance, this quaint little greenhouse and this old farmhouse turned event venue are a few client faves.

Fail to plan, plan to fail- that’s how the saying goes, right? I’m sure there are some photographers who successfully fly by the seat of their pants, but my personality won’t let me live that way 😆 Let’s just say I need more than one hand for how many times we’ve had to pivot locations last minute, and it is always so much easier when there is always a back up in mind!

This Austin area location is one of my FAVORITE spots! Without fail, this location looks beautiful no matter the time of year. It looks beautiful on the sunniest of days and overcast days alike. The golden grass and wildflowers in the spring are the cherry on top! The nearby trails we wander on and the trees scattered throughout are just the perfect touch! My favorite part, though?! The cliffs! They sit perfectly above the lake and give us a totally new look at the same spot. This location doesn’t have an entrance fee, but because it’s popular, it can be quite crowded especially on warm days and weekends.
